Why invest in Nature?

Nature is the infrastructure on which all society is built, providing the essential services that underpin economic activity and human wellbeing. Today, over half of global gross domestic product depends on the healthy functioning of these natural systems, including food and water security.[[1]]

As climate change and environmental degradation erode these systems, nature is shifting from an under-valued externality to a strategic, investable component of the real economy. Investment in nature increasingly aligns with long-term capital, grounded in physical assets and predictable outcomes, and supported by bankable revenue streams for the services it provides.

We believe investing in nature today represents a generational investment opportunity, where private capital can play a pivotal role.

The Role of Private Capital

In 2023, private capital accounted for only 18% of financial flows directed towards nature, with investment still largely driven by public finance and philanthropy. [[2]] While these sources play an important role, they are insufficient on their own to meet the scale and speed of investment required.

The natural capital sector recognises the value of this asset class and the untapped opportunity it represents for investors, businesses and the planet. Innovation and advances in digital technologies across land use, forestry and agriculture have enabled new models that improve efficiency, transparency and scalability – creating pathways that were not investable a decade ago.

By supporting the development and deployment of these models, private capital plays a critical role in mobilising nature investment at scale.
